Who Arms Africa?

The Corruption Tracker is exposing the arms trade as one of the most corrupt businesses in the world, affecting almost any region. Yet, the impacts of both arms sales and corruption are often ignored, or even excused, especially when it comes to the African continent. From Russian mercenaries to Emirati money to European weapons and militaries, some African countries have had to bear much foreign intervention even in supposedly postcolonial times.

The Corruption Tracker has documented allegations such as an international arms company essentially tanking the Mozambican economy, Egypt bribing a US senator at the expense of its own people, Israel fuelling the conflcit in South Sudan, and bribery from European arms companies setting the stage for a state takeover by private interests in South Africa. Over the next twelve months we will highlight these and more cases in search of answers to the question: #WhoArmsAfrica?
